September 26, 2009 Typhoon Ondoy brought one months worth of torrential rainfall to the Philippines in a matter of a few short hours burying Manila. 8 days later, Typhoon Pepeng struck the northern region of the Philippines further enhancing this devastation. These back to back floods, drowning communities in as much as 20 feet of water, affected the homes of more than 7 million people and resulted in 858 deaths. On October 23rd, creating heavy winds, rainfall, and 31 foot-high waves, Typhoon Lupit narrowly missed Manilla by 345 miles. International Medical Relief sent much needed medical aid to volunteers working in the area to care for the patients.
